Colbert released a presidential statement today (he won't have a show tonight):
"Although I lost by the slimmest margin in presidential election history - only 10 votes - I have chosen not to put the country through another agonizing Supreme Court battle. It is time for this nation to heal.
I want to say to my supporters, this is not over. While I may accept the decision of the Council, the fight goes on! The dream endures! ... And I am going off the air until I can talk about this without weeping."
This is Simmons, signing off.....

Colbert Facebook Statistics - 1.3 New Members per Second
NOTE: WRITTEN ON SATURDAY 10/27 AT 6:00 PM
As Colbert 2008 points out, the 1,000,000 Strong for Stephen T Colbert now has 1,109,100 members.
The Facebook group was created 10/17/2007 at 5 PM and reached 1 million members 5:54 AM 10/26/2007. Although they didn’t make their original goal of 1 million members in a week, they came pretty damn close. Not only that, but the group is the fastest growing Facebook group ever.
Let’s do some math.
1,109,100 members / 241 hours = 4602.07469 members/hour
4602.07469 / 60 = 76.7012448 members/minute
76.7012448 / 60 = 1.3 members/second
That mean’s by the time you finish reading this sentence, a bunch of new members will have joined.
That’s a lot, right?
If anybody wants to check my math, feel free.

New Colbert Website!
A new Colbert website, ColbertForSouthCarolina. com, has started a calling campaign.
We need you to help us get Stephen on the ballot in South Carolina. Yesterday the democratic party rejected his application, but we think, if they hear from the public, they might change their minds. Will you help us reach our goal of 10,000 calls in 10 days? We know that kind of response will have an impact. Sources tell us even a 1000 calls is considered a successful calling campaign, so imagine the response to 10,000 calls! Stand up for truthiness and justice for all and pick up the phone today!
South Carolina Democratic Party
Office: 803-799-7798

I've already e-mailed, and I called them yesterday. Will you take action?
You like the cheesy graphics I keep putting up?

Colbert Misses New Hampshire Primary Deadline :( - Meanwhile, Other Candidates Run
Stephen Colbert missed the deadline yesterday for filing for the New Hampshire primary, despite speculation.
Meanwhile, other candidates signed up.
One contender, Vermin Love Supreme, paid in 10 $100-bills and sloganed "Vote for Vermin Supreme, or else terrible things will happen to your family while you sleep".
Other contenders included a Pittsburgh area hamburger stand owner who paid in $2-bills.
In total, 44 candidates will be on the ballot, pending the legality of one candidate born in Egypt.
New Hampshire, unlike the @$$ holes in South Carolina, has no requirement for supposed 'seriousness'.
State Secretary of State Bill Gardner said he doesn't see the many fringe candidates as mocking the process. "For me, it's like the principle of sometimes you let a guilty person go free because you want to protect the rights of the innocent," Gardner said.
At stake is the notion that anyone can grow up to be president, Gardner said.
"I like the feeling of regular people saying that this is their chance and they want to try," he said.

An Open Letter to Waring Howe, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman
This is the guy who said he'd allow a Colbert campaign over 'my dead body'. Please copy this and email it to him at waringsh@bellsouth.net or call him at 843-722-8269! (change your name obviously)
Dear Mr. Howe,
I'd like you to reconsider your rejection of the Colbert Campaign. You are missing a huge opportunity that is unlikely to come again unless we vote in another president as unpopular as the current president.
By denying Colbert even the chance to run, you are effectively throwing away the youth vote. By allowing Colbert to be on ballot, the percentage of young voters would increase beyond what it has been for years. This has been proven through the '1 Million Strong for Stephen T. Colbert' Facebook group, which, at the time of this writing, has over 1.3 million members. Yes, 1.3 million members.
Second, you are denying South Carolina the chance to be a powerful primary state. A Colbert campaign in the state would bring unprecedented media coverage. Not only the media, but a new candidate with such media attention would cause campaigns locked in the lead to consider the possibility of a poll shake up.
If Stephen T. Colbert does not get his well deserved spot on the ballot in January, trust me, he will collect the signatures to get on the ballot in general election. And that can only hurt the Democratic party.
Carrots and sticks, Mr. Howe.
Sincerely,
Simmons
